LANDSCAPE DESIGNERS Beautiful gardens are the result of the perfect combination of art and science. This section will
assist you in your search for the right designer to turn your landscape problems into attractive and functional
solutions. When researching designers, be sure to verify the designers experience with similar projects. Many
residential project, particularly those involving general site planning and specific planting design can be
completed by a garden designer. Designs that involve hardscape detailing (such as significant decks, walls,
paving, and drainage) may require that you employ a licensed landscape architect. Landscape architects are identified
by the LA designation, and also under the ASLA heading for the Licensing and Professional Organization section below.

LICENSING AND PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATIONS
Numerous organizations and governmental entities serve the horticultural field. These organizations protect the health,
safety, and welfare of the public and promote professionalism within the horticultural occupations. The state licensing
board requires that anyone performing a landscape project valued at over $500 obtain a C-27 license. Licensed
contractors are identified by name and license number on the board website. Many of the professional associations
have areas of their websites open to the public that describe their mission, what to expect from a professional and
rosters of members.
